Clear-air Signal Level Measurement for Microwave Line-of-sight Link Application in South Africa

چکیده
This paper presents an analysis of the 19.5 GHz clear-air signal level measurement variations over a line of sight link set up between two campuses of University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. The measurement over the link spans a period of eleven months. An analytical expression for fade depth exceedance is proposed for KwaZulu-Natal, in South Africa. The link outage probability is compared with the results obtained from two ITU-R models as per Recommendations P.530-8 and P.530-12, Morita’s model for Japan, and the model of Vigants used in the United States. The Morita model over sea and coastal regions gives an outage probability of 0.060%, compared to 0.037% obtained from the measurements, with the two ITU-R models also giving close values of 0.027% and 0.024%, respectively. However, Vigants’ model is found to be the least appropriate for outage estimation in South Africa.

In this paper, clear-air fade depth and outage probability occurrence of microwave signals is estimated based on the effect of tropical geoclimatic factor derived from atmospheric refractivity gradient computed for three years (January 2011-December 2013) of measurement of air temperature, pressure and relative humidity for terrestrial line of sight (LOS) link design application in Akure, Niger...

Determination of mobile localization with time of arrival (TOA) signal is a requirement in cellular mobile communication. In some of the previous methods, localization with non-line-of-sight (NLOS) paths can lead to large position error. Also for simplicity, in most simulations suppose non stationary actual environments as stationary. This paper proposes (residual test + recursive least square)...

Behavior of co-channel interference in fixed wireless cellular systems, such as millimeter-waves Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS), is different compared to what has been established for mobile microwave systems. This is due to utilization of a high-gain antenna for the subscriber. In this paper, first the analysis of signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is presented for line-of-sight ...

متن کاملMeasured pedestrian movement and bodyworn terminal effects for the indoor channel at 5.2 GHz
Human body effects such as antenna-body interaction and scattering caused by pedestrian movement are important indoor radio propagation phenomena at microwave frequencies. This paper reports measurements and statistical analysis of the indoor narrowband propagation channel at 5.2 GHz for two scenarios: a fixed line-of-sight (LOS) link perturbed by pedestrian movement, and a mobile link incorpor...
